With the shelter’s kennels full of so many dogs, we wanted to feature everyone this week! Some adult dogs are overlooked and underappreciated when they can give just as much love as a young puppy. By adopting an older dog, you are giving them a second chance at finding their forever home!

Here are just a few of our adoptable dogs that are available NOW:

Drake (Male, 3 years old, Terrier, American Staffordshire/Mix)

Leigh (Female, 2 years old, Hound/Mix)

Keeta (Female, 3 years old, Collie, Rough/Siberian Husky)

Weston (Male, 3 years old, Shepherd/Doberman Pinscher)

Flabbergast (Male, 3 years old, Terrier, American Staffordshire/Bulldog, American)

Symon (Male, 4 years old, German Shepherd/Siberian Husky)

Can’t adopt right now? Another great way to help the dogs at the shelter is by fostering! For many dogs, the shelter is a scary place. Fostering helps the dogs feel calm and relaxed until their adoption appointment! It also frees up kennel space for incoming dogs!

Fur real though, by adopting or fostering you can save lives!

If you want to help the dogs at Humane Fort Wayne, fill out an adoption application or learn more about our foster program!

Depeche Meow is our resident emo/goth girl. While many of our cats enjoy the catnip pools and laying in the sun, Depeche Meow purrfers to stay in the shade and hang out with a few friends instead of big crowds. She enjoys the silence and just can’t get enough head scratches, but sometimes will get inspired to chase the popular cats away so she can enjoy Churu snackies by herself. While she’s not all rainbows and sunshine, her chinchilla soft fur and beautiful eyes makes her perfect for those obsessed with the moon and stars.

Depeche is a 3-year-old gal looking for her forever home! She loves getting lots of pets and attention from people. She’s a beautiful cat who is just looking for the right people to love her. Fur real though, Depeche Meow is the perfect partner for relaxing and listening to some music!

Dogs are wonderful companions who make our lives infinitely better. The beautiful Kataleya is no exception! She is a 3-year-old Retriever/Mix looking for the perfect family to take her home. With all of the changes at the shelter, Kataleya has some separation anxiety, but there are many tips, tricks, and advice that the HFW staff can provide to help Kataleya settle into her new home nicely. She can easily make friends with any person or dog who comes to the shelter. She loves to run, play, and have lots of fun outside. This gal is seriously an absolute delight to be around. Fur real though, don’t delay – adopt Kataleya today!

Here at Humane Fort Wayne, we value all cats – even the ones that are often overlooked and underappreciated. There are a few lovely felines that have been at the HFW Shelter for a while that are incredibly sweet and friendly, but have just not found their purrfect match yet.

Rochelle W. is a very calm and low-key girl… until its playtime! She gets really into playing with string toys and has a blast! When she is relaxed, she enjoys perching on top of boxes and watching the people and cats around her. Rochelle is a sweet cat who is looking for a family to provide her with love… and some boxes!

Sweetness is a beautiful gal whose unique voice makes her sound a little mean, when in reality, she is sweet like her name suggests! Sweetness is independent and would do best in a home without young children. She enjoys pets and snuggles, but she will just need some time to get to know you first!

Farnsworth is super outgoing and friendly, and he loves belly scratches. He’s everybody’s friend and he’s part of the welcoming committee in Cat Room 2! His face makes him look a little angry, but meeting new people and cats is actually his favorite thing in the world!

Paisley is the definition of beauty. She is a sweet senior who is just waiting for the right family to take her home and adore her! Paisley’s favorite activity is sitting in the sun and watching the birds outside her window. She has a very calm and laid back personality that would make her the perfect fit for a quiet household.

Rochelle W., Sweetness, Farnsworth, and Paisley are all some of our longest resident cats at HFW. All of these cats are full of so much love and they’re just waiting for the right person to give it to. Fur real though, all of these cats are truly remarkable!

If you are considering adding a cat to your family, fill out an adoption application today and unleash some love for our longtime residents!

Hello Plio! This 2-year-old gal has a lot of interests. She’s a brilliant dog who knows a few commands. She also enjoys squeaky toys, playing fetch, going on walks, and most of all – cuddles! Plio’s favorite part of the day is hanging out with people who are excited to give her pets and all of their love. Not only does she love people, but she loves other dogs, too! She is currently co-kenneled with another dog and has tons of fun during doggy playgroups. Plio often looks scared in photos because she holds her ears back, but she is a very calm and relaxed dog. She’s an absolute sweetheart who gives as much love as she gets! Fur real though, Plio is a true people person… or pup!

Nefertiti, Queen of the Lobby, is a returning guest of Humane Fort Wayne. Two years ago she was adopted by a kind man that saw her grace and beauty and her FIV diagnosis didn’t bother him one bit. Unfortunately he recently passed away and poor Nefertiti, now 8 years old, is in search of a new kingdom to rule over. Thankfully Humane Fort Wayne always has a place for former guests to rest until a new, kind family comes to take them home. And because of advocacy work with FIV cats, we now know that, “FIV-positive cats can live long, fulfilling lives. Casual, non-aggressive contact does not appear to be an efficient route of spreading the virus. As a result, cats in households with stable social structures where housemates do not fight are at little risk of acquiring FIV infections,” (Virginia Beach SPCA).

Nefertiti is a sweet senior cat with a cute and quirky meow who loves lots of pets and enjoys lounging around like the royal lady she is. Due to her FIV diagnosis, she doesn’t get a lot of social interaction at the shelter compared to some of the other cats so she is really looking forward to her perfect match sweeping her off her feet and taking her home! Fur real though, Nefertiti is such a loving companion!

Adopt Nefertiti and give her another chance at a happily ever after. Fill out an Adoption Application today!

Hey Faye! This 8-year-old Staffordshire, Bull Terrier Mix is super calm and laid back. She would much rather relax by your side and enjoy the nice weather than run around playing fetch, but who can blame her? She’s past her puppy days and she knows what she wants! Faye would do best as the only pet in the home so she can get all the attention and snuggles! She is just a wiggly and happy gal looking for a home that will take in a senior dog. This happy little hippo will warm your heart. Fur real though, make Faye’s day – adopt!

If you are looking for a dog to love and get that love back tenfold, then fill out an Adoption Application for Faye today!

Have you heard of a Manx cat? They’re a special breed of domestic cat originating on the Isle of Man, with a naturally occurring mutation that shortens the tail…and we have TWO here at Humane Fort Wayne! While Manx cats’ coats range in color, our stubby-tailed twins are all black. Panther, the sweet one, and Harley, the spicy, adventurous one, are both great with other cats, love meeting new people and like to perch on shelves and towers! They are each about 1 year old and are looking for a home to settle down in. No tails required! Fur real though, the Manx Twins are double the love!

Fill out an adoption application today and come meet the tail-less twins!

She is beauty, she is grace, playtime with Gratia will put a smile on your face! This gorgeous gal is obsessed with playing ball. And she’s good at it, too! She’ll politely drop her ball in front of you and once you’ve thrown it, she’s as quick as a boomerang to bring it right back to you. It doesn’t matter if it’s a tennis ball, a volleyball, or a beach ball – she absolutely loves it. If you let her, she would play fetch for hours nonstop. In fact, if you try to take a break too early, Gratia will literally push the ball to you and give you her sweetest puppy dog eyes. (And who could resist those?!) Her energy may seem endless, but she loves to snuggle and relax with people, too. Gratia is a talented 4-year-old American Bulldog Mix who is great at sharing her toys and knows the commands “leave it” and “sit”.  Fur real though, she is such a sweet girl who would love a playmate who will share her excitement for tennis balls!

If you want a forever playmate, then Gratia is the girl for you! Fill out an Adoption Application today!

Doctor Barber doesn’t know what he wants to be when he grows up, and sometimes when walking, his limbs don’t know what they are doing either. His specialty, playtime, is just as silly as it is sporadic, but despite his quirky movements and lack of normal cat balance, he’s incredibly affectionate and loves his cat friends and people, too.

The Doctor is a 1-year-old sweetheart with special needs. When he came to Humane Fort Wayne, he struggled with a prolonged high fever. He fought the infection for 3 weeks, which may have caused some neurological issues that make him a little uncoordinated. As he plays and runs, his muscles are becoming stronger and he is getting better every day! We’re not sure if he will ever get back to 100%, but he takes life in a wobbly stride, and would love to bring his gentle and playful personality into your home. Fur real though, Doctor Barber is such a joy to be around!

If you would like to experience life with Doctor Barber and learn his secrets about happiness, fill out an Adoption Application today!
