Found inside a garage at the end of spring, Kittiwake and her kitten, Gosling, came to us in rough shape. They both fought a month-long upper respiratory infection and a few other treatable ailments, forming close bonds with each other and staff and volunteers. Because of their initial poor health, Kittiwake and Gosling had to wait for their spay and neuter surgeries, and during that time, Kittiwake was a caring and sweet cat mom to her kitten.
When Gosling was eventually adopted, this young mom, barely a year old, lost the one long-standing constant in her life. She is unbelievably sweet, and easy with everyone, but as you can see, she’s a little forlorn for a purpose and a family. Finding a home and building new connections with a loving family would do wonders for this adorable little gal! Fur real though, Kittiwake is a true family kitty who deserves to get back all the love she gives.
Fill out an adoption application to come meet Kittiwake and give her the opportunity to find her way home!
You’ve heard the phrase: “Opposites attract”. This is certainly true for Moonwind and Siena! These two adorable Pit Bull Mixes are kenneled together and have a blast playing in the yard. Siena is a sweet and cuddly 2-year-old and Moonwind is a curious and independent 1-year-old. While Siena constantly wants hugs, Moonwind would rather explore his surroundings and find his next playmate! Moonwind can play a little rough, but Siena gets along with everyone and can match his energy level! These two don’t need to be adopted into the same home, but they would both do well in an active household. With both of them being so young, they still have lots of energy and will need someone who can take them on walks and play with them to work it all off. Fur real though, Moonwind and Siena are the perfect dynamic dog duo!
To help one (or two!) of these incredibly friendly dogs find their forever home, fill out an adoption application today!
Are you in need of an adventure buddy? Well look no further! Clay is the purrfect man for the job! Clay is a seasoned adventurer who has mastered using a harness and leash. Clay is only two, but can nap like a geriatric cat, and plays like a kitten. He was once confused with a bag of oranges. He is a total sweetheart who doesn’t shy away at the face of danger.
Interested in learning how we taught Clay to use a leash? Here are some tips/tricks from Humane Fort Wayne:
- Make sure your cat is confident and curious. Walking on a leash will not be enjoyable for all cats. If your cat doesn’t seem interested or appears frightened, don’t force them.
- With your cat’s body size in mind, chose an appropriate halter with clips. No velcro!
- Fit harness and allow cat to wear harness for increasing periods of time, indoors.
- When the cat ignores the harness and walks comfortably, add a leash and explore the home!
- When the cat is feeling safe and brave, check out the front or backyard on leash, allowing for common sense and staying close by the doors incase loud noises startle the cat.
- Add more time and distance in your trips outside, never let go of the leash or leave the cat unattended.
- Enjoy scent walks and exploring with your feline friend!
By following these steps, any cat willing to answer the call of adventure, like Clay, can learn the joys of exploration. Fur real though, give Clay a journey of a lifetime and adopt! Fill out an Adoption Application today!

Nellie Oleson is a retired performer, long tired of high fives for crunchy treats. She’s exploring what she really loves doing, jumping hurdles for tuna tube snacks! Nellie has been in our program for far too long and she’s growing tired of this place. While we work hard to keep her mind occupied, she wants nothing more than a home of her own, to stretch her legs and work off her cantaloupe body. While she loves people, she lacks patience for young and rowdy kittens and is ready to mingle with folks with her level of maturity. At 4 years old, Nellie is ready to settle down and get comfortable with a family that loves her no matter what. Fur real though, Nellie Oleson is beautiful and incredibly brilliant!

With the shelter’s kennels full of so many dogs, we wanted to feature everyone this week! Some adult dogs are overlooked and underappreciated when they can give just as much love as a young puppy. By adopting an older dog, you are giving them a second chance at finding their forever home!
Here are just a few of our adoptable dogs that are available NOW:
Drake (Male, 3 years old, Terrier, American Staffordshire/Mix)
Leigh (Female, 2 years old, Hound/Mix)
Keeta (Female, 3 years old, Collie, Rough/Siberian Husky)
Weston (Male, 3 years old, Shepherd/Doberman Pinscher)
Flabbergast (Male, 3 years old, Terrier, American Staffordshire/Bulldog, American)
Symon (Male, 4 years old, German Shepherd/Siberian Husky)
Can’t adopt right now? Another great way to help the dogs at the shelter is by fostering! For many dogs, the shelter is a scary place. Fostering helps the dogs feel calm and relaxed until their adoption appointment! It also frees up kennel space for incoming dogs!
Fur real though, by adopting or fostering you can save lives!

Depeche Meow is our resident emo/goth girl. While many of our cats enjoy the catnip pools and laying in the sun, Depeche Meow purrfers to stay in the shade and hang out with a few friends instead of big crowds. She enjoys the silence and just can’t get enough head scratches, but sometimes will get inspired to chase the popular cats away so she can enjoy Churu snackies by herself. While she’s not all rainbows and sunshine, her chinchilla soft fur and beautiful eyes makes her perfect for those obsessed with the moon and stars.
Depeche is a 3-year-old gal looking for her forever home! She loves getting lots of pets and attention from people. She’s a beautiful cat who is just looking for the right people to love her. Fur real though, Depeche Meow is the perfect partner for relaxing and listening to some music!
