Thank you for opening your hearts and homes to foster pets in need. Whether you foster tiny kittens or puppies who need some time to grow, or an adult cat or dog who needs a little extra TLC, you are making it possible for us to provide the very best care for cats and dogs that find their way to our shelter.
Fostering is a messy, rewarding, stinky, adorable, and sometimes a heartbreaking job. We certainly could not provide the level of care necessary without valuable fosters like you.

What do I pay for?
Nothing. Humane FW pays for all expenses related to the pet.
Should I keep foster pets separate from my own pets?
With kittens, yes. Dogs no. You will want to have your pets up to date on all vaccines.
How long will I have to foster?
Humane FW has several fostering opportunities. The time length depends on the pet’s age, behavior, and/or medical needs.
Who do I contact in case of an emergency?
Upon picking up your foster pet, you will be given a list of emergency numbers.
What do I do if my foster pet passes away?
Please notify a Humane FW representative and they will tell you what to do from there.
Supplies We Provide
We try to supply you with everything you need to care for our foster pets. Each foster will receive a foster kit specific for dogs or cats. Both contain basic items that may be refilled at the shelter upon running low. Items in each foster kit is listed in the appropriate foster manual. Below is a partial list:
- Food
- Bowls
- Toys
- Crate/Ex-pen
- Litter box & litter (cats)
- Poop bags (dogs)
- Towels
- Blankets
Prepare Your Foster Space
Foster dogs and cats will need a bit of extra care in determining your foster space. While kittens should be separated from other animals in your home, dogs and cats may get along fine alongside your other pets. Our Foster Manuals have specific details for fostering cats, dogs, kittens and puppies.
Caring For Foster Pets
We expect our foster parents to treat the foster pet as they would their own pet. We also trust that our foster parents monitor the foster pet for general behavior and health while keeping us informed of any unusual activity.
