Our Mission

Humane Fort Wayne is Northeast Indiana’s leading resource for connecting residents to their forever friends. For more than 65 years, we’ve served as the hub for helping animals find their safest places in our community and giving citizens the resources to get them there.

Our Animals

Animals come to Humane Fort Wayne from all kinds of circumstances. Once they enter our care, we provide medical services, rehabilitation services, behavioral assessments, and of course, lots of love and attention to prepare them for their adoption!

It's Volunteer Appreciation Week! ❤️

Have you ever wondered what it's like to volunteer at Humane Fort Wayne? To celebrate our volunteers, we will be highlighting a few throughout the week and hearing about their experiences at Humane Fort Wayne! Today we will hear about Aggie's time at HFW:

“Volunteering makes me put others welfare first (staff, other volunteers and the shelter dogs and cats) and in return I get so much more – long lasting friendships and unconditional love. When I have a bad day, volunteering with the animals puts a smile on my face and a skip back in my step and the day gets better; and when I have a good day, well volunteering makes the day awesome! I never expected to get involved in Pet Promises or Fostering when I said “yes” to volunteering and I have met some of the most wonderful families and pets because of them.” - Aggie M.

Thank you, Aggie! We appreciate all of the hard work and love that our volunteers show our staff and animals! 🐾

Here at Humane Fort Wayne, we value all cats - even the ones that are often overlooked and underappreciated. We have started a blog called "Fur Real Though..." that will highlight our unique furry friends and hopefully show everyone why we love them so much! ❤

Visit humanefw.org/programs/furrealthough/ to see our first blog post that features Adam, the senior cat who loves to party! Fur real though... Adam is amazing!

What a pretty baby

Adam was so sweet when we were there to visit! He's super friendly and wants to be your very best friend🥰

Senior cats are so great. I just had to have my Garfield put down last summer, had him for over 15 years, got him there at the SPCA. Id think about adopting Adam except I have 2 already here at home, the latest Milo has become quite the character and a fantastic replacement for Garfield. Anyone reading this and has no other animals in the house, go take a look at Adam, he might be an elder kitty but looking at those bright eyes, I think he's going to be around awhile and he is obviously a winner for someone!

It's Volunteer Appreciation Week! ❤️

Have you ever wondered what it's like to volunteer at Humane Fort Wayne? To celebrate our volunteers, we will be highlighting a few throughout the week and hearing about their experiences at Humane Fort Wayne! To start off the week, let’s see what Stacy has to say:

“I started volunteering because I was so grateful for the love our own shelter alum got during her short stay with Humane Fort Wayne. I wanted to help other animals get a fresh start and find their forevers! I work full time in a very different field, so volunteering at the shelter is a time to do something different and help different people I wouldn’t meet at my job. I have a lot of free time in the summers and on holiday breaks, so I can do a lot more then. The volunteer options are flexible enough that I can do more when I have more time.” - Stacy E.P.

Thank you, Stacy! We appreciate all of the hard work and love that our volunteers show our staff and animals! 🐾
