Youth Volunteering

Are you under 16 or have a child who is under 16?
Check out how you can get involved!
Read to Cats
Join our Read to Cats program! Sign up for a 30 minute slot at our shelter to read to adoptable cats at our 901 Leesburg Road location. Volunteers may bring their own book to read or can ask to borrow one from the shelter.
Be sure to follow any instructions, wash hands between cat rooms, close door completely and keep voices low and calm as to not scare the kitties! Please be mindful of potential adopters who may also be visiting with cats.
Children under 16 must be supervised by their staff, parent, or guardian at all times.
The slots available are the only time available; we are unable to add any other days or times.
Pet Food Pantry
Volunteer at our Pet Food Pantry on Hanna St. Kids ages 10-15 are welcome to help bag pet food at our pantry with a parent or guardian. We can not accept kids under 10 for this oppurtunity.
Tails on Trails
Want to take a shelter dog out of the shelter for a walk with your family? Parents who can handle strong, energetic dogs can sign up for our Tails on Trails program and their bring children along.
This is not recommended for parents with strollers or very small children. Kids must be comfortable around large, rambunctious dogs.
Get Crafty at Home
Help our adoptable cats and dogs enjoy their time at the shelter by making them something fun to do! Learn about all of the easy and safe enrichment you can make in our Crafty Critters Book!
