Community Education Center

Here, we will help people in our community learn about what we do, and we will share best practices with shelter partners from around the region.

Enriching Spaces for Shelter Pets

Our new facility is designed for pets and people alike! Dog kennels have indoor and outdoor areas, and cat colonies feature large windows that give them outside views. Indoor training and outdoor play areas are also available for shelter dogs.

Public Outdoor Walking Trail

Our outdoor walking trail is open to all pets and people who love them! The trail surrounds the building and connects to Lindenwood Cemetery’s trails. Pets using our trail need to be vaccinated, leashed and cleaned up after.

Purchase Pet Swag

We have a variety of swag available for purchase at our facility! From collars and leashes, to toys, to Humane Fort Wayne-branded merchandise—you and your pet can dress to impress!

Where is the new facility located?

The Sharon Bodenhafer Critter Center is located at 901 Leesburg Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46808.

How do I get there?

Traditional GPS applications will navigate you accordingly to 901 Leesburg Road. Our new building is located in between Citilink and the University of St Francis.

If you are currently in Fort Wayne, from heading east on Jefferson Boulevard, turn left onto West Main Street. At Leesburg Road, turn left. Humane Fort Wayne is .2 miles down on the left. If you reach the railroad tracks, you’ve gone too far.

Where do I park?

During regular business hours, you can park in our on-site parking lot, located at 901 Leesburg Road.

What’s happening to the Hanna Street location?

The Hanna Street location will be the headquarters for our Pet Promises program, which includes the pet food pantry, compassion foster, in-home services, and quarterly vaccine clinics. It will be Indiana’s first and only freestanding social services facility dedicated to pet owners and the pets they own and love.
