In the event that you may need a pet fostered, Humane Fort Wayne has a foster program called Compassion Fostering. This program will foster your pet for 30 days with the option to request another 30 days.
To qualify, you must be a resident of Allen County and and meet one of the following criteria:
- Lost housing due to flood, fire, or natural disaster.
- Need medical attention and have no other family to help.
- Recently experienced a domestic violence situation and living in a crisis shelter.
Please be aware that this program has limited space. All Compassion Foster applications are reviewed on a case by case basis. Also note, that you may be required to provide proof of your situation. Just fill out the Compassion Foster questionnaire and someone from our team will get back to you if you qualify.

Maggie’s mom needed medical care. We fostered her for one month and Maggie was reunited with her mom.
Gorgeous Boy George
His family lost their home due to no fault of their own. George’s family was able to secure housing and just shy of 2 months they were reunited with George in their new home.
Say Hello to GusGus
His owner needed emergency medical treatment in November. We were able to take GusGus into our Compassion Fostering program. He was reunited with his mom just in time for Christmas.
